It's Cycling Weather!
One of the most common reasons we hear for people not cycling is the weather.
At roadshows, information stands, even at Under One Sky, people say they'd love to cycle but the weather is terrible for it. We usually respond with some advice for cycling in all weather, point them to our free cycle training which can also be used to brush up on your cycle skills, route planning and even get advice on cycling all year round because wet or windy weather isn't that difficult to protect yourself and your bike from, nor does it cause as much of a problem as people expect.
So with the current mini-heatwave, it's perfect cycling weather for those who suggest they need everything aligned to get on a bike. So get your bike out and get cycling if you can. And as we're still beaming from the great Pledge to Pedal event last weekend we're going to put some more photos up from it to inspire you to get outside and cycling.
The Pledge to Pedal St Luke's Hospice ride took place in the cold and the weather wasn't as nice as it is at the moment and all the participants loved it. They had so much fun cycling around the borough and seeing the sights, so now it's your turn.
We'll put some photos up this weekend so if you're thinking of going for a bike ride, log onto the blog and see others cycling to get your final push of motivation to make it happen.
Happy riding!

School Walks
This week we've been encouraging you to walk more as it's walk to work week. Every morning we see hundreds of school children walking to school, talking to their friends and parents going single file into their classes ready to absorb a wealth of knowledge.
It made us question why we stop this habit once we get older? Is it the temptation after getting a driving license of being able to drive wherever we want and make a statement of independence or is just a habit we form and can't shake?
As an increasing number of studies show, the older we get the more exercise we should get. Walking is low impact and suits a variety of lifestyles, combating obesity, allowing weight control, the regulation of blood pressure and encourages a healthy heart. With Harrow having so many wonderful parks and greenery, there's always an excuse to get out and explore the borough more. With the health benefits and opportunities to catch up with friends, walking is really an all-round ideal way to let off some steam in a more demanding lifestyle than ever before.
Next time you see a child walking to school, remember when you did the same and ask why you stopped walking so much and try and fit a walk into today, tomorrow or even every day.
